Thoughts would be; Dead battery (possibly due to failing/failed alternator, thus it would not have been able to keep the battery charged) - Check to see if the headlights come on or not when you have the key turned to the accessory position. If, when you try and start it you don't hear the engine trying to catch but the headlights come on then it might be a dodgy starter motor.

It will be the Battery, I went through 3 batterys in four years on my MY04 WRX before someone said always run with your side lights on, Car has a smart alternator see and dosn' start charging until there is a load on the battery. Do a quick search on here and loads will come up.

I'd put money on it being the battery.
If it's the original it's 3 years old and that is at the short end of the average battery's life span.

Don't ignore a duff battey.

I ignored the fact that my battery dying in my GTIR and it pretty much exploded on my mothers drive.

She was not happy.

Not uncommon with batteries, works one day, dead the next, especially if one of the cells packs in completely.

My scoob did the same....

Its mostly due to the COLD! Alternators, battery and starter motors seem to play up more in the frost! Any garage can do a battery check (most are free) some can even do alternator checks etc. The AA will do it
