Brakes and suspension would be a better start.

Then a good panel filter, decat exhaust system and then have a look at the ESL remap.

Forget dump valves and induction kits, both a waste of money.

Be warned it's slippery slope once you start modding.

You don't need headers unless you intend to go for over 400 brake.

your ecu can't be re mapped, but i believe you can chip and then re map. think your around 600 for that but could be wrong.

walbro fuel pump, bigger turbo, injectors. then set up. your top mount is good for 380bhp i think. bigger sti v8 is good for 400. or you could go fmic.

just remember more power the drivetrain will break easier. uprated your clutch for a start.

z4 is the model of ecu in a late 94-96 wrx and is rated at 260ps

subaru identify early ecus by a letter/number or number/letter combo

If you want to check the ecu is in the passenger footwell under the carpet and then a kick plate.

Standard turbo (TD05) is good for 340-350 bhp. Only change it if you want more, but that power level will take you way beyond the £1000 initial budget.

Standard intercooler is good for 300 bhp. STI 5/6 coolers can be fitted relatively easily, but newage STI coolers are a bit of a bitch. May as well go front mount.

I'm running up to 1.5 bar on mine with properly sorted fueling (550 injectors, Fuel pressure Regulator, Fuel Pump), but thats getting toward the safe limit of the WRX engines.
