TD05 for WRX
hi. i have a 94 wrx. i was wondering which td05 turbos could bolt straight on and how much boost could i run safely with a standard wrx engine, but a decat exhaust system and FMIC is already fitted. how much power could it run? cheers

if you have a 94 wrx sallon then you already have a td05 which is plently capable of 300bhp with the right mods.
if you have a wagon then you have a td04 which can be swapped out for the td05 easy. new map to support.
i do belive there are a some uprated td05 out there which ahve been played with...but not sure about them.
if i were you i would stick with the standard td05 you have to begin with.

Provided it's a saloon, AFIAK, you should have a TD05-16g. You can fit the 18g and 20g with pipework modifications, but the 16g is very capable IMO.
Boost wise, without a later map sensor, and either a FCD or mapable ecu 1.1bar is the most boost you can run.
Mine makes 330/290 bhp/lbft without mapping. Not the best approach though.
My car managed this, at this years Scooby Shootout;

my wrx is a saloon. i never knew wrx's come with a td05. i was told all wrx's come with td04's and sti's come with td05's. is that 330bhp or 290bhp and is that just with high boost. i have a FMIC and decat stainless steel exhaust. and it is running on 1.1 bar boost. providing everything else is standard, how much bhp approx would my car be running. i still need to buy a green MAF and hopefully the cut out of power should be cured. what other beggining mods could i fit. cheers

My car @ 236bhp;
Full decat, 2.5" from DP
Standard ECU(2C)
GReddy booost controller
Standard airbox
Revolution(I think) DP
Mine as it is now, nearly 2 years, is;
Same as above, but;
FMIC
Z4 ECU
Nur Spec R
Apeci power intake.
Walbro pump.
Thats the only things changed IIRC on mine, for a nearly 100bhp increase.

i think its the MAF because i checked the ecu error codes and it showed the MAF aswel as pressure sensor and veicle speed sensor and one other which was the next one after MAF if you take a look at the error code list, i can't remember it from the top of my head. other people on the forum have also told me that it could be overboosting since its running on 1.1bar. my CEL comes on sometimes and then other times its off but i still have that power cut off problem.

so does this mean that all wrx saloons come with a td05 turbo as standard. how much power with a few subtle mods could you push out safely. and at what limit would you risk blowing the engine. cheers

well i bought it off my cousin not too long ago. he bought it from a mechanic who had a legacy bottom end fitted, an sti turbo which he probably lied about since its already td05, an sti gearbox, full decat system and a FMIC. how do i find out if it really is an sti gearbox? cheers

There should be coding on the gearbox starting with TY.
I think it's actually on top of the gearbox where it connects to the engine but to be sure you could speak to David at Welcome to the API website and ask him where the code should be.
