hi m8 make sure that you have the pullys lined up correctly if you have marked the pullys top and bottom with the same colour of paint and they spin round its easy to get confused and place them 180 degrees out then your car wont start or at least missfire on one bank. you wont have ony damage to the engine set the timing up to t,d.c on crank shaft

make sure that the pintle on the gear is in the middle of the crank position sensor then check your timing
i always put other marks on it before taking the belt off the timing marks

i am doing another one tomorrow nite ,i will check the marks on pullys for you and get back to you m8 geo
Be careful here! The timing is not set up @ TDC it is set at 90deg after TDC as this is a safe point where the pistons are part way down the bore, thus allowing you to turn the cam shafts into position without the valves coming into contact with the pistons.
There are 2 timing marks on the crank timing wheel, one is a triangle on the face of the wheel which denotes TDC, the other is a straight line on the trigger tooth 90deg before TDC, this is the one you use for timing by lining it up with a nick in the crank sensor housing.

has the engine been rebuilt or is it just a straightforward cambelt change?
If the engine has been stripped, there is a possibilty that the inlet and exhaust cams are in wrong?
