Too much boost causing fuel cut? Do a search on here for cleaning your boost solenoid.

check your spark plugs if in any doubt change them , and if you have the early classic check your coil packs for cracks at the end around the rubber seals

Model year, mods, last serviced etc?
It could be lots of things but without any knowledge of the above it is just guestimation (well as most things are without seeing them but atleast you can have a closer shot at getting it right )

Your best bet is to take the car to a garage or speciallist and get any error codes read.

I had a similar problem on my MY2000 classic. It wasn't a complete engine cut, just a period of reduced power. After 2 sets of plugs and the usual service items, carefull cleaning of the MAF sensor with petrol and a soft brush cured it.

Boost or fuel cut. Can overboost in cold weather - feels like someone has slammed the brakes on or fuel cut if the fuel is low in the tank although that usually happens on bends
