Default Anyway of telling if my Classic WRX has been re-mapped?

Hi all,

Only just got another WRX.

Is there anyway to tell if my 1997 JDM has been mapped to take UK (98 octane) fuel without booster? been in the UK since 2001.

I am currently using £10 a tank booster from Halfrauds but intend on getting some Nitrous formula, read the posts about methanol etc.

If it was remapped to UK fuel do they change the ignition timing via ecu or some other parameter?

Cheers in advance if anyone bothers to reply lol

the 97 can't be remapped.. it was mapped for a short time with a daughter board by powqer Engineering but I don;t beleive they did many.. so very unlikely.

to remap it, it would need a new ecu.. if you remove the kick plate in the passenger footwell and check you should see if it is an original ecu or not.. post a picture if unsure.

if it is on the original exhaust and filter then you don't need to remap the wrx for uk fuel imho

Hi,

Thanks for the reply its much appreciated.

Its got an ARC induction + Trust panel filter and a decat TSL box + Sti g/box and Sti suspension and thats as far as I can see, I will as you suggested check the ECU.

Just to be safe I will be using Booster + Optimax to prevent det. I was hammering the search yesterday and I think a lot of people recomend Nitrous Formula and Millers.

Anyone know if "Wynns stop oil leak" is ok to use in these engines as I will be flushing the already fresh oil next week anyway for Millers.

Thanks
FN

Thanks for all your replys guys....

AAahh just noticed your the ECU chap everyone recomends

Not engine flush but "SEAL RECONDITIONER" FORTE stuff or "WYNNS STOP LEAK" - Always kept away from flushing stuff, i just got a leak so as an interim measure thought I would block it with "forte" its not the rocker cover so it may be the half moon rubber...

Thanks
FN
