Default Dyno Result

Just had my car dyno'd and to be honest i was expecting more(as everyone does lol)

The car is a Version 3 sti RA and mods are.

VF34
Nismo 550's
Hybrid FMIC
Full Decat
Apexi IK
Simtek ECU mapped and running 1.5bar

The car made 323.8bhp and to be honest i would of thought it would of made a bit more.

A friend of mine also run his, a WRX RA with similar mods apart from he has a TD05 18g running 1.4 bar and he only made 334bhp....Was i just expecting to much from the mods we have...? As the curve on the plot tails off is spirals which obvioulsy isnt right but it done it on both cars so id expect it to be a dyno issue.

My bug-eye STI made 277 bhp at the hubs, I guess around 350 bhp at the wheels...

VF35,FMIC,TSL catted exhaust,Ecutek, at 1.5 to 1.6 bar.

my car is 97 stira vers 3, it was rr in powerstation and made 326bhp, that with vf23,panel filter, decat to nurspec, standard headers,,i thought she was going well until i got her mapped yesterday by andy forrest, now with added on ss headers ,apexi ecu =1.3 bar,,he says it should be 330 bhp ,but she feels a hell of a lot quicker

Dunno how much more you would get out of a VF34?
Although not from a RR printout, its only a DD readout, mine was 340 bhp. So realistically probably similar to yours if i went on a RR.
Its the torque figure that makes me smile

What reason did dyno operator give for odd spirl on the plot?
Wheel spin, or straps too slack?

the more I look at that Graph the more wrong it looks..

vf34 peaking at 4800.. max bhp at 7100.. RA run in 3rd gear..

Looks like the rpm / gear ratio was not altered from a UK box imho.

Do you have the boost and AFR plot?

looks well under peak boost it should be.. 1.35bar.. not enough load on RA box in 3rd.. seems to have spooled late.. again possible the wrong gearing selected.

Whether the richness at the top is related to spiral effect or not who knows..

If the car was mine, I would attach the LM-2 and run it up the road in 4th or if there was a long straight runway available inn 5th, all the way from under 2K rpm to somewhere past 7.3K rpm.
I would then have a serious look at the fueling to see if it has replicated the rolling road print out. There can be quite big differences between what is printed out from the RR and what you see on the road. If the RR curve is replicated and down below 11.2:1, get that sorted and recheck ignition advance as I guess it could take more ignition lower down at least.
Who mapped it and what comments has your mapper actually made.

Def something wrong with the dyno or dyno set up.

I would be dis-regarding figures from a dyno if the graph looked like that.

The graph shows 3rd gear at the bottom.
Doesn't the DD software need the correct gear (and diff ratio) for the graph output?

again below target boost and tailed off.. fuelling different as run in 4th I presume.. but still the software is setup with 3gear...
also again spooling very late and suggest perhaps the gearing is not selected correctly.. therefore rpm is wrong and effecting the figures and the spiral at the end is just wrong.

I mapped them both and have suggested to Jay that they come over to the dyno I have booked in december and let Charlie at Surrey RR power run them.. if they are lower than they should be I'll tweak them.

They are road mapped and from memory go like stink.. usual to get slightly lower on the dyno when road mapped than roller..

As i said Simon, Martin or myself have no problems with the cars on the road and as you say they go like stink!...lol

I think we will make the date at Surrey Rolling Road so we can compare and also tweak the map if needed..

He sure has Harvey and that just shows why his services are in such demand. Ive not once questioned the map because the car is blisteringly quick on the road.

was this Triton Motorsport in Bournemouth?? If so, I went to a rolling road day there in my old GTO TT with about 20 other cars, some of which had only been dyno'd 2 weeks previous - Triton's Dyno was WELL off!! In some cases upto about 30-40 bhp compared to previous dyno's. Giving them the benifit of the doubt I took my Scoob there for a check over and RR map and they failed to notice it had 2 blown piston rings and even said it was running sweet.
I soon learned, after MUCH hassle with them, they had no idea what they were doing.

If I were a betting man, I'd bet your Dyno print from your next RR will show you the figures you expect!
