Default Which is the best Top Mount Intercooler?

Is there an aftermarket TMIC that is better than the OEM one?
What is the disadvantage of going to FMIC?
Is the stuff on flebay ok?

The stuff on ebay is generally pants unless you're buying a specific known brand. Avoid anything that's generic.

The OEM topmount on the newage STi's is very good. If your car is only going to be used as a road car and not going for mega power, then there is a very good case for not changing it.

There was a magazine article where they did back to back tests, including testing an generic ebay TMIC ... and the ebay IC was considerably worse than the stock item.

I can also recommend the APS top mount, and as afaik it's the largest volume top mount you can get. Fits the stock position a treat. I know as I have one (for sale soon due to engine change).

Some of the ebay ones are a bargain. I read the article in JP and **** myself because I had bought an XS Power from from ebay. The problem with them compared to the likes of the hyperflow ones was the fin density inside the core. When I checked mine out it had the higher fin density the same as the hyperflow ones. Cosmetically, it is probably not finished quite as well, but with previous experience in fabrication and finishing I've cleaned it up and am in the process of polishing it up. Real difference, approx £80 for mine whereas a new Hyperflow or APS one can set you back 10 times that.

I have Hyperflow TMIC running a tad over 400bhp and never see charge intake temps more than 15 degs above ambient even under hard throttle (unless of course you've been sitting at the lights for 10 minutes but I'm not into traffic light grand prix!). My car is not tracked and I love the throttle response of a good TMIC so I wouldn't consider changing it even if I were to slap a 450bhp turbo on

Hyperflow TMIC's work very well - good for at least 450hp

Scoobyclinc ran the above on a 22b with a 2.5L + MD321T.

451hp / 484 lb
