Default sorry, CEL again.

hi all, i have just got a 2002 51 plate sti type uk and had it for about 3 weeks now without any probs............ till now.
drove to work this morning and all was fine, coming home tonight and the engine management light came on.
now all seems to be running fine, revs round ok and does not seem to loose boost (no gauge yet) but light will not go off.
the car has a full 3" turbo back full de cat exhaust and have read that it can take a while for the light to come on after you take the cats off. is there any truth in this?
cant get it into subaru till monday so have to try get in somewhere else. any body any thoughts?
cheers, shawn

nice one, jsut had it looked at by an alfa specialist, said it was a misfire on cylinder 2, re-set it and no sign of it coming back and light not on either.
whats all that about then

This can be caused by a faulty neutral position switch - sometimes they incorrectly reports faults. Common problem on bugeyes, including mine.

The part only xosts about £35 to replace.

It's a switch which reports that the gearbox is in neutral - in the bugeye it can often trigger incorrectly, especially when pressing on or on bumpy roads. For some reason, this shows up by lighting the CEL and reporting an incorrect misfire. It doesn't actually seem to cause any problems apart from this. I think it's in/near the gearbox.

I'm sure someone can give a better explanation!

thats interesting. can anyone shed any light on this?, just seems strange that it read a misfire when all seemed ok.
