Buying a 2001 200 turbo..any advice?
I'm looking at buying a 2001 March 01 2001 turbo with 79k on the clock.
I really need advice on what to look out for and what simple tests I can do when viewing it.
It's been imported from Ireland about a year ago and the current owner hasn't got the service history book although he is trying to get it off the last owner.
He has had the car fully checked and has a turbo back stainless steel exhaust and green filter fitted...no more mods.
The condition of the interior and exterior would suggest the mileage is correct and I'm happy to accept that, I'm just worried about what servicing has been carried out.
I'll post a piccy below, not sure if the exterior is standard, it would be helpful if anyone could point out any non standard alterations.
Cheers, I'll post a bit in the intro area shortly.

In the current market?
A pint of coke and a bag of dry roasted peanuts at the local pub!
Assuming a decent history (and you only ever by a performance car with a decent history) probably around the 4k mark.

personally I would not let the lack of service history totally de-rail the purchase
I think an equally good indication is the condition of the interior -- if it looks really well looked after then I am always encouraged.
when I drive a car -- you can usually tell if it’s a "wrongun" – it usually just doesn’t feel right
if it accelerates and brakes in a straight line that also a really good sign
also I always think that mechanical problems are easier (and often cheaper) to fix than bodywork or interior
also you can get a car with all the history in the world and it can still go pop 2weeks after you've bought it.
just my take on things

No history,no sale for me.You have to think about when you come to sell it too. Also check that it'll be avoiding the big road tax leap next year, that comes in for March (23rd?) reg'd cars post 2001.

Also, alterations to the car:
Wheels and tyres
Tints
side indicators
front indicators
sti rear lights
Rear subaru badges missing
ss exhaust
mudflaps
If the current owner is relying on the previous owner I wouldn't hold out much hope in seeing the history.

I thought only the early cars had the aerial on the "A" pillar? Should'nt it be on the rear quarter for that year?
Maybe 2001 was the year it was introduced to our shores and not the year of production. Maybe just had a facelift conversion, it would certainly be worth getting someone familiar with Impreza's to check it out for you before you buy.
After all, there's plenty to choose from atm, and it's a buyers market.

Do we have any gurus in the Glasgow area that could have a look over it for me?
Maybe even a subaru specialist who could plug it in and give me the low down.
Really like this car and it seems like we're both getting a good deal, I'm passing on my 2001 Vectra Gsi for a 2001 impreza with similar mileage, the vectra has a fully documented history but still not getting much more than 2750 on ebay
The scooby has to be worth 2750 even without history?
