Timing belt idlers
I am about to change the timing belt on my MY99 with 87k on the clock and have a question about changing all the idlers and tensioners at the same time.
However has anybody ever just replaced the belt. Just curious as there are no squeaks or rattles from any of my timing components.
I assume the sensible thing is to change them, as why risk a 2k repair bill when the idlers are only around £150.
Just curious, but any advice would be much appreciated.

You wont know the condition of the idlers until you spin them by hand to check for roughness/excessive wear.
Likewise with the tensioner - inspect for wear on the top of the tensioner rod, fluid leaking pass the seal and idler for roughness/wear.
Base your decision on the results.

Thanks for that.
Just checked the past service records and only the belt was changed at 45k so all the idlers and tensioners are going to be replaced this time.
Cheers
