the z4 ecu will fit as it's a 4 pin ecu BUT i don't know if the pin outs are the same (JollyGreenMonster.co.uk you could speak to this guy and ask).
IMO though there are better ,but more expensive, ways of getting more power as a remappable solution would be more cost effective over time.

from memory that ecu will run fine in a uk car. it will need super unleaded fuel though. its a good ecu.

yes, pre face lift uk cars had td05, even the wagons. it was the wrx import pre96 wagon that had a td04

WRX (1995/96) ECU Z4 - 12.71psi, dropping to 11.78psi @ 6600rpm. Fuel-cut 15.65psi.

You need the td05 as that's what the ecu was mapped for.

How are you running 257bhp at the mo?
As the early uk turbos ran 208bhp as standard.
The z4 was mapped for 380s which is what you will have.

i wish i knew i have like i said a full decat hks filter a standard d7 ecu with no chip added inside td05 and running standard 0.8 boost

this is why im putting the z4 ecu in as the boost will be higher and hence more power as long as the injectors can cope along with the fuel pump

the injectors are fine. td05 + z4 ecu was standard equipment for 94-96 wrx imports. the injectors on the uk cars are the same.

I guess you have a had the car on a rolling road to get the power figure?
The z4 is rated at 260ps and you're running that power now so the boost is ony 0.07 higher (possibly a better fuelling map perhaps)

Not without an additional daughter board or chip (which you don't have)

This is interesting. Rolling roads do differ from one to another but that figure is a big difference. I'd be interested to see what difference the Z4 made..
