Default TO REMAP OR NOT TO REMAP?? ADVICE PLEASE

hi guys, i have a 2004 wrx standard apart from prodrive exhaust. she has been 100% reliable from new i have done 40k miles with only service/tyres/brakes etc. so i kinda love her and dont want to sell. so i was thinking of just maybe a bit more power i think 225bhp and would like just enough power to be noticeable, say 30-40 bhp would be fine. not well up on remapping at all so i need some advice. 1st is this a good idea or should i stick with 225bhp? will this affect my car in terms of reliability?? how much will it cost?? ive been told i can get it chipped from £200 upwards but i want a good job at a reputable place if you get me. can anyone point me in the right direction as to where to go?? im in staffordshire...any help/advice much appreciated...thanks in advance

in my opinion if your going to get a remap you need to decat the car, as the power difference will be much more noticeable than just a remap as standard. reliablility wise it will be fine when i got mine remapped it was a little bit better on mpg

I have a similar car (03)

I had a decat centre section and sports backbox (scoobyworld) and put the silicon Y pipe on to improve air flow to the intercooler.

A session with Andy F got me 273bhp and as a bonus it is switchable so i only turn up the power when i want to play, not when the car is on the motorway, perfect balance.

The car has a noticable power difference between the two maps and it is well worth having it done by a real specialist. I can only vouch for Andy but there are others on here highly recommended. Cost £500 for the map as part of a group buy. The majority of that is the Ecutek license.

As above mate De-cat or sports cat then a good panel filter. I have also read that a uprated fuel pump helps a lot to get the most out of the map
If you are still in doubt speak to a tuner - specialist.

Decat/sports cat exhaust
Uprated panel filter
3 port boost solenoid
Ecutek remap by recognised expert (stay well clear of "chipping")

Circa 270 bhp and similar torque, maybe more. Makes for a very nice car and won't hurt reliability.

Best advice here really. I spoke to Andy beforehand and he said panel filter was a waste of money in comparison to the Y pipe (standard black plastic one is very restrictive)

Never bothered with anything other than the exhaust and that pipe and 273bhp. Best thing is it still passes an MOT because the other two cats still do the job.

Where you based? Again, northern section Andy Forrest is your man otherwise Jolly Green Monster, amongst others gets some good reviews down south.

The Y pipe/host kit you can get from Roger Clarke Motorsport (Samco) or a cheaper one off e-fence but no idea on the quality!
