Question

Did a track dfay the other day, took the spare out to find 4" of water. the carpet has damness around the left furthest rear corner.
The rubber round the boot lid edge all look fine so I can only assume the seal is OK.

Daft question - How do I tighten the rear spoiler, don't really want to undo bolts unneccessairly but I think it is getting in under the rear spoiler, there is some movement there...

Rich mate,
the water is undoubtedly getting in through one of the rear light clusters, the thing to do is take out the boot lining, and get in the boot with a torch, and get an assistant to spray the car with a hose, just make sure that the assistant will let you out afterwards!!!!!!!!!
Then you'll have to remove the offending light cluster and reseal.
Ron ( now with dry boot)

RON,
I had thought about that but the fear of not getting out bothered me
Maybe I take the house keys into the boot with me...

I think you are right though, I have got moisture inside the rear left light cluster and it is that side that leaks...

Cheers mate!

Cheers RON, that was the problem, just got the cluster out and the sealant had gone all round the top, the light cluster has water in it and the side off the boot is full too. Had to cram the car in the garage now which was very difficult...
Cheers.

Guys, have been having the same problem with mine. The last time I looked, the rear well, housing the jack had about 4" water in which I had to syphon out, and the boot well also contained water. I assumed that it was the boot seal, but this was repaired when I got the car. So you reckon it's the left light unit, I'll look at that, is it the rubber light seal ?

JK,
You have exactly the same problem as me. I also had 4" of water by the jack bracket.
The difficulty is getting the light cluster out. There are five nuts to undo but the cluster is sealed in so depending on how much sealant is still stuck to the car will determine how hard the bu66er is to get out!
You just have to keep pulling at it (Oo Er) but eventually it comes (fnarr fnarr).

Anyway, my rear light is now trying to dry out in the house and I am trying to remove the black gunk which is a sod to get off.
Spoke to my friendly local dealer (Nissan) who said they would re-gunk it for me for the cost of a pint

Chaps,

I've just replaced both my rear clusters - the easiest way to get the lights off is to borrow a hairdryer or heat gun (careful!) to soften the mastic. This helps you get the lights off and also means you can reuse some of it when putting them back on.

I'd recommend adding plenty of silicon bathroom type stuff on top of the mastic though to make sure it's nice and watertight.

I have the same problem... as a temp fix you can remove a rubber seal in the middle of the spare wheel from underneath and then any water just runs out the bottom... must get around to fixing it properlly though,... is it possible for me to seal the clusters with bathroom sealent whilst they are in place?

I have fixed mine, took the cluster out and got rid of most of the mastic. The old stuff had parted from the top hence leaked. Just got some more mastic, it came in a roll like sticky tape, pressed it all the way round and bolted the cluster back in. Typically it is now raining, hopefully the mastic is waterproof immediatley or I might be doing this again...
