is it really neccessary to keep to this if its a weekened car and you barely do 1000 miles in the 6 months?

Would like to know about this too as it's the same for me. Am going to try and do it once a year though as I would have thought that was needed?

The 6 month bit has never really bothered me, but in cold weather condensation can occur on metal surfaces inside the engine and then get into the oil. This is more of an issue in vehicles not used regularly and when used, often doing short distances. So I always replace the oil/filter in the Springtime irrespective of the mileage since the last change.

If it's required to keep a warranty then definitely YES.

If not then you either do as the service manual says, which I presume is where the 6 months comes from, or you take your own risk. You might totally get away with it, or your car might blow up the day after it should have been serviced. Who can tell !!

What service period where you thinking of instead...?

Oil deteriorates over time. I heartily suggest at least 6 monthly regardless of mileage, even more so if you only do 1000 miles in that 6 months.

is that the same with fully synthetic ester based oil though?

a clio tuner (gdi) told me they ran a skyline on silkolene pro s for 14,000 miles with track abuse and tested the oil and it didnt lose its visocity or properties!

Can't speak for JDM classic's but MY07 UK manual specifically recommends the oil being changed in the event of low mileage.

Mine does low miles so is changed every 6 months.Main service in November and oil change in May
