Default Horrible noise on the track :(

I was at Knockhill today doing the 25 lap driver experience (in your own car) – and all was going well for the first 40 mins but then I started to get a very strange noise coming from the front left of the engine when on full boost (pedal to the floor) and when the revs were 5k+.

No engine warning lights came on and if I went up the revs and speed on part throttle then the noise didn’t come back – so only on full throttle and full boost and higher up the rev range. Any idea what might be the cause?

Interestingly on the way home (it was still happening) I switched the map to the lower boost map and even on full throttle then the noise only came on once right up near 6k revs. But not nearly as much as when I was on the higher boost map and most of the time I couldn't get it to come on at all.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks
Richard.

Played again with the low and high boost settings on the way to work and the sound could be the turbo. It's a metallic grating sort of noise. Could that be the bearings? Sound only comes on though on full boost - but not on full boost when it's running on the lower boost map.

Hmmm.

Are you able to take the inlet pipe off the front of the turbo or the dowpipe off the rear to see how much play is in the shaft?

Does sound as if the turbo is the issue.

Thanks for the tip - I'll try and take a look tomorrow.

Cheers
