yeah pretty much but you might find that you will just be cranking the engine over so put the car in low gear and should be able to loosing the bolt?

Not always easy .

Too save messing about you can remove the whole alternator from the car and stick pulley in a vice . It will stop the pulley from spinning and help you crack it much easier

I have not got a vice i could put on the pulley, i did see it has a few holes init that i could put a screw driver in to hold while i turn the nut (good or bad idea?)

one on the altenator or the one slap bang in the middle of the block stopping the timing cover coming off?

if the one on the block put the car in 1st gear and give it a try with all 4 wheels on the road

If you can see holes in it you mean the crank pulley

Yes there are 4 x 8mm holes in the pulley for the reason to put a tool in it to hold it to help you remove it .

Yeah, its the pulley right in the middle of the cam belt cover, i did have it in 1st gear but it moved round when i turned it. I think i will try and use acouple of screw drivers to hold it still, thanks for all the info hopefully i can get it off tomorrow

put two 10mm bolts in the holes opposite each other and wedge a bar between the bolts to lock the pulley and then undo the bolt.
