Default 93 WRX BOOST PROBLEM???

Got a 93 WRX in the garage..

Under boost it feels like its hitting the boost cut defender very early, also feels like it goes from very low boost,to hitting the FCD...

Flashed out the codes and it seems to be coming up with 45.Boost pressure solenoid.

It has a 2 port BPS which i removed and tried to clean..Didnt make an ounce of difference really.. Flash codes still saying 45..

Tried cleaning it again with green connectors joined so it was cycling the valve..still no joy..

SO... can these just fail to the point where they aint repairable? Priced one up and there around £250..
Any help appreciated..

code 45 is the map sensor, not the solenoid, sounds like you need a new one

Aye?????

Wheres the MAP sensor then ??

Do you mean the MAF or AFM ??

Do you have a fault code table?? Im sure that i read 45 as boost control solenoid!!

I took the info from here.......

Frequently Asked Questions

This makes the control solenoid as 44.........

So where is the pressure sensor ???????

on the drivers strut tower where the boost solenoid is, there'll be a component made of black plastic with just 1 hose and a plug from the harness all part of the boost control pack.

I think that describes it right.... I dont have a pic of the 93 version

lol yep top pic map sensor to the left of solenoid.

though this shows a 3 port sol..... if your sol looks like this setu were ok, if not at its a 2 port as you say then its slightly different to look at but i thought they only came on 97 plus cars with a different map sensor :confused

3 port solenoid ,as far as i know, were standard on the early cars but the MAP sensor is better on the later cars (may be wrong though)

Cheers Guys..

It does look identical to whats in the picture.. Will flash the codes again and be 100% sure...

Anyway of testing the boost pressure sensor or do you just have to swap it ??

The car is decatted with an induction kit on BTW,would this cause a problem at all with the BPS..??

Wouldn't have thought so as i 've been running mine like yours for the past 4 years like that and haven't had any problems.
