If it's Japanese import - as you say - it (the most probably, unless remapped) is mapped to 100RON, so the best idea is to use at lease SUL, better with octane booster. But if you have Shell with Vpower Racing or Tesco with 99RON petrol - that's the best and safest idea.

i would definatly run it on super unleaded. japanese fuels are high on octane so the imports are designed to run on super.use atleast a 97 ron.shell v power is recomended. I run mine on bp ultimate. Though i do know someone who runs there sti import on regular unleaded and hes had no problems.

to the OP 97 is fine you could run it on 95 but the performance will be slightlt lacking in comparison to using SUL
It depends on how you drive the car.
If you never give it any beans and dont over rev it then it will probaly run fine on 95 ron, esecially if its the 240ps verson.
If the car is a 260ps version or if you drive it hard and rev it up lots then use a minimum of 97 ron.
My old 260ps wrx fitted with a det monitor never showed any det when running on various super unleaded fuels.
