Unhappy Fuel smell on boost/accelertaion - Anyone with good knowledge of these cars needed :)

Hi all,

On boost/wide open throttle we get quite a bad fuel smell. Car is near stock, runs stock ECU and fuel economy is good so doubt it's running Rich just smells really fuely.

Have checked for leaks but to no avail has anyone had this problem before?

Best Regards,

T

Check over the rear diff after getting back from a drive. My was leaking down here from the fuel pump gasket. Turned out to be breather pipe blocked causing the tank to pressurise too much blowing fuel out the top of the tank.

Sorry for the late reply just back from my hols. Checked the gasket thanks for that but the smell is defo from the engine.

There is slight hesitation from the car which is more apparent the more boost you use. At 0.1 bar it's hardly noticeable but at 0.5 bar you can hear/feel the hesitation, all I can think is ignition as the mixture isn't being ignited hence it smells like fuel, maybe coilpacks do they make odd noises when failing?

It's hard to describe the noise I get, like grinding but not metal on metal. As soon as you get up and above 0.5 bar the car hesitates badly, smells of fuel and makes this odd humming noise from the engine. The noise/hesitation is there from the word go but very hard to hear and mild until you get to 0.5 bar. It's not boost controller issue related either car sounds a little 3 cylindery which again makes me think ignition, doubt head gasket has gone no overheating and no oil and water but will comp test anyway.

Odd!
