Default turbo noise

how audible is the turbo from inside the cabin, mine seems quite loud, also there is something whining under the bonnet, can hear it from idle, not sure if its the turbo but gets louder under load and takes a few seconds to wind down when you back off the throttle, theres no smoke and it still holds boost ok,could my turbo be on the way out or am i looking at something else ie expensive
