Default OBD to USB cable

What do I need for a MY00?
Is It OBD 1 or 2?
And is there any Subaru specific software. Just for fault finding?

99 and 00MY use Subaru Select Monitor and is not compatible with OBD scan tools (same connector is all), you can use the opensource reader with a tactrix cable though, but that's a lot dearer than the OBD compatable stuff.

If yours is the Classic shape Impreza i'm pretty sure it isn't OBDII compliant.

Have a look at this

JollyGreenMonster.co.uk

I use a Tactrix USB-OBDII interface along with ECU Explorer for my 2001 Newage car.

This is where I got mine from , it's in the US but with the good exchange rate inc customs charges it works out at about £65.

tactrix

You need to be careful and make sure any cable you get has the correct Subaru protocol interface built in. This one does.

ECU Explorer is fantastic and absolutely free from here

As I said above though I'm pretty sure it only works with 2001 on Newage cars.

Cheers, Andy

Mind you, having read ECU Explorers latest updates it seems it does work with MY99/00 ECUs!

If you just want to log SSM data a VAG-COM cable worked for me, costing £14 from ebay. Much cheaper than the Tactrix one, but you can't do a lot else with it mind (Good for an MY99, since you can't reflash them with opensource stuff anyway).

SSM uses the K line in the OBD and 4800 baud. RomRaider worked a treat for me.

You can use ecuExplorer with the tactrix cable on cars from 1999 on so you'll be ok with yours. What you don't have as an option with the 99/00 cars is the ability to map/alter parameters using ecuExplorer, but as a diagnostic tool you have all the functionality.
