250ps the problem is that they don't have the forged internals (iirc) as they are modified from the wrx.
For 350bhp engine rebuild is required (plus all the other upgrades ,injectors, fuel pump, fmic etc etc)
better off getting a late model STI to start with imo.

I have number 71/200 my internals are forged also runs a CDB which was blueprinted by STI as with all the number runs! ECU is rated at 250 but ive read of so called standard cars making over 280. I have had my ECU open no chip fitted and my mates Rolling road proven 311bhp classic cant keep up and i totally leave him in the mid range!
There is one kicking about with 342 but it has been heavily modified but still uses the original turbo! Cost alot to get there too!

As stated, just a modified WRX, this didnt really change until they had the v3 which was really the first true (as we know them today) STi's with forged internals, v1's had cast (as per the wrx's) but had some nice STi goodies on there, not worth pushing too much power out of one as they are 14 years old now and the early engines are known to be a little fragile
