2004 WRX engine noises - standard car
I have a late 2004 WRX with 46k miles on it which has started making clanking/diesel noises above 3k rpm. Started after a spirited run but sounds normal at idle and low revs. Car is FSH and has had a few extra oil changes between services. Never abused but is sometimes driven hard. What are the likely causes or usual problems with these symptoms? Noise is from the bottom end of the engine. Will it get worse if driven as I've not moved it since it started? Likely costs to fix it and best place to go? Any help much appreciated........

If its the big ends then its a rebuild, about 2.5-3k
but your best bet is to get the car into the dealer (or a subaru speciallist if out of warranty) asap and dont drive it until its due to go in, it may make things worse

Thanks for the reply Tony - are big ends the likely cause of the noise or something that often goes on these? Thought I'd get more than 46k miles out of a standard car that's been looked after.......
Can anyone recommend someone to look at it in the lincs/east yorks area please - car is out of warranty as it will be 4 in Oct.... Anything cheap it could be or is that wishful thinking? What about an addative (ametech or something) to quieten it and make it last a bit longer??
