Default can't get over 3000 revs....

overtook another car (nothing dramatic) the other day and it sounded like something popped or blew under the bonnet. managed to drive the car home but it will not go over 3000 revs now. Under 3000 revs it sounds and drives almost normally, but at 3000 it starts shuddering and will not go over. Had a look and can't see any split pipes etc, any suggestions as to possible problem greatfuly received....

sorry, new to this posting business. it is a 2000 GT (think that's the european equivalent of a WRX, but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong). EkuTek with supporting mods, but standard airbox with hks hybrid filter.

Limp mode happens when the ECU detects a fault and cuts power. You need to read the codes from the ECU and find the fault. I'm not 100% sure on how to read the codes from that model but plenty of people do know. Someone else will jump in shortly im sure.

Dan.

brilliant mate, cheers. the "check engine" light didn't come at first. i took the intercooler off to check something and put it all back ok (i think) and now the check engine light has come on, so i'll get it hooked up to a computer and see what it says...

I appreciate your input but i have no idea what you're talking about (my ignorance). Is it something that you can see without taking the engine apart
? I would be grateful if you could tell me where to look.

cheers

This can be found on the turbo (left side of the engine bay) under the heat shield.

moved from london to sweden 4 years ago, better place to bring up the kids. had a little bit of money over after selling the house in london so scoob was shipped in straight away. never had any intention of modding it - it was totally standard. then found this site.....

RBGUS, checked all the pipes around the turbo (heatshield was taken off last year) and can't see anything hanging off. If i don't find the problem over the weekend I'll sling it in the garage on monday and see what the say. I'll post the problem when I find out what it is.

cheers

How the heck have you come to that conclusion with the info (very little indeed) above?

If you have had the i/c off, it could be a boost leak.
Check the throttle body to i/c hose aswell as the turbo to i/c Y pipe.
Either loose connections or split hose.

The first thing that springs to mind, even though you've said nothing's off, is that a boost hose has blown off.

I had a problem with one of the very narrow hoses attached to the turbo a while back. it had split at the end and the boost kind of stuttered before picking up properly. this is quite different though, the whole car shudders and it will not go over 3000 revs. doesn't matter if i accelerate quite hard or try to build up gently, it just won't have it.

Could also be a knackered Knock sensor.

Dave.
