Removing crank timing sprocket?
Hay all,it's been one of those days.First i fit my new 4 pots, but they hit my wheels, and now changing the cambelt whilst waiting for wheel spacers, the woodruf key on the crank is damaged!
The steering belt pulley almost fell off in my hand, looks like it's been slipping and has damaged the key,and the pulley.I spose im lucky i found it before it totally went.
My question is,whats the best way to remove the crank sprocket so i can change the key?
Thanks,Mit

Mit,they normally corrode in place due to the heat from the oil pump.
Soak the keyway slot with WD40 or similar and try and lever it forwards with 2screwdrivers from behind the gear - be carefull not to break off any of the timing lugs on the gear.
If it moves forward a bit, soak the keyway again with WD40 and tap it back with a soft/copper mallet - keep on working it backwards and forwards till it comes off.
Check the keyway slot on the front pulley/belt pulley for damage also - the pulley normally comes loose due to bolt not being tight enough(127Nm).

Thanks for the reply,i've soaked it in WD40,and tried the screw driver method, trouble is im damaging the pump.Looking at it i can't see how i could even get a puller in there,as it's very tight,to the pump, and access for screw drivers/hammers is limited. As the cams are set for removal,if i rotate the crank to get access to the other side, will the pistons hit the valves? Looking at it you'd think the sprocket and crank were one,it's that tight!
