Default Crank pulley? oil leak after belt change

Well that timing belt change went a bit **** shape.

Had a problem with the timing belt mentioned in this thread

https://www.scoobynet.com/general-te...perplexed.html

so took the old belt off and decided to start afresh. Found the second bolt in the hydraulic tensioner wasn't tight, though the piston in the tensioner was putting pressure on the tensioner wheel. The hyraulic tensioner needs to be fitted and then eased over to the left to create a bit more tension bolting tight then removing the pin in it tension the belt.

Anyway fitted the belt to the appropriate marks on the cams and crank pulley, turned it manually a few turns to check no obvious clouting of pistons and valves and then started it.

At this point oil starts coming from behind the crank pulley. Turned engine off and took a look, Restarted and not so much came out but soon say give it 1000-1500rpm oil starts coming from behind the crank pulley.

Appears to come from all around the pulley, so can only assume oil seal has gone??? Odd that didn't do it before can only assume that as the belt tensioner wasn't set properly the belt wasn't as much/correction tension.

I am assumming it is the oil seal? so now need to get a oil seal. Belt got oily but have removed it immediateley and brought it home and degreased it with detergent.

As can imagine really *beep* off now

Has anyone had similar happen?

Sounds like the front crank seal is damaged or the back plate screws have come loose on the back of the oil pump and leaking from there.

Cheers Mick. With some advice and a crank seal from Len at Subaru4you the oil leak has stopped. The old seal all but fell out when I removed it so that was a good sign. Belt and seal done now for a while I hope
