Where abouts does the noise come from and does it go away when the car is warm?

Boost solenoid ticks, but I don't think it increases in speed with the engine.

My old 97 UK had piston slap, which is a ticking noise....makes the car sound a bit like a diesel when cold. Should go away when warm though.
Think it is to do with one of the pistons being ever so slightly smaller than the rest (think No.4 piston) and they were made from a different material to the phase 1 engines. Expands when it warms up which is why it goes away as the engine heats up.

As long as the oil level doesn't drop, then it should be ok, just a live with it noise!! There is a way to fix it, but if memory serves, it was about a £600 fix!

Others on here should be able to confirm/add to the above.

Best thing to do would be to make a sound clip and post it...guys on here are great at fault finding that way!

Driver's side suspension turret?

If so, boost solenoid: more of a worry if it stops ticking!

They do tick, they're s'posed to. They can transfer the noise that they make naturally into the frame if the little rubber mounts have gone hard. They have a steel tube inside the rubber mounts and when the rubbers go hard the steel tubes can transfer noise. Take the tubes out and just sensibly tighten the screws onto the rubbers and the noise will stop.

No need to clean out unless you have boost control issues.

That's the PCV valve which works the crankcase breathing system when recirc is used. lt can be deleted if you go over to a catch can type of arrangement and let the engine breathe out to atmosphere.

OR you can pay the stealers a pile of money for a new one.......
