have got one thats covered around 50000 miles of my m reg wagon,when it was on the car it didnt smoke it boosted fine with no probs,have removed the engine to do a few things,when i came to check over the turbo i noticed when i pull on the compresser shaft it has a fair bit of in and out with the normal up and down,i have stripped the turbo to check it over and have found nothing that stands out to me to be wrong apart from a little carbon build up,one thing i have noticed is that the two brass bearings come out of the turbo housing very easyley,should these be a tight fit or not as there dosnt seem to be any marks of ware on them from spining in the housing etc so i'm thinking there not a tight fit from new,just woundered if anyone else has had any thing like this or any pointers for me,might just put it back together and put it back on,

TD05s all have shaft play in and out, don't have any hard numbers but I'd guess something like 3mm. I'm not sure if up and down is ok, because the ones I've seen didn't have any.
