MY97 WRX JDM 280PS
Hi.
I spotted a nice MY97 in Japan and now im thinking about buying it.
Does anybody have an idea where to find some Technical Specs about it?
It's hard to find anything thats helpful in the Subaru Model and MY jungle.
Are there any common problems with a MY97 WRX ?
Which engine and transmission is fitted compared with a STI 3 or 4 Model.?
Why the car comes with 280PS? I think its not just increased boost pressure and other ECU/Fuel mapping?
I want to find out more about it before i buy. I hope you'll understand.
Thanks!!!

Look here
Eta Tauri Site Impreza Reference - WRX Frenzy
And here Which Car is a WRX STi
These sites show various power ratings for cars think it’s due to a gentleman’s agreement in Japan saying they will not produce cars over 280ps but some are actually higher. Some say STIs that year closer to 300ps.
If you can afford it (and the insurance) go for an STI much better spec car

I allready know these pages. Im looking for some other informations like.
Which Turbo is fitted ?
Which remap opportunities do i have?
Which ECU is it?
Why the MY97 Models have 280Ps??
Such things i would like to know
How is the performance compardes with other MY? MY93 for example. ( which i owned before )
Or are there any common technical faults??
Hope you understand what i mean.

i have one
i was doing 4.9 0-60 times with a cat back exhaust and a panel filter 6 years ago
comes with a lot of STI parts on it, i would recommend one over the sti as you get the performance without the extra cost
mine pissed all over 93wrx`s and came with 260lbft when we rolling roaded it
despite what you might think, 2 pots can be fine for average road use with decent pads, although bigger brakes are a good option, most people upgrade when the 2 pots are not working properlly
i upgraded after 5 years!!??!! because my wheel bearing collapsed and shagged the front calliper the 2 pots would have stopped on the car otherwise, most of my driving was on the way to work or motorway stuff, living by twisty roads might be different
car comes with the bigger sti/22b 90mm maf, airbox, 440`s etc etc usually come with a midlevel spoiler and i have only ever seen 1 car without the "sti" rear lights
true performance bargain nowadays, although i paid close to 9k for mine years ago

I have one too and to be honest I dont have a problem with the brakes allbeit with upgraded disks and pads all round they are fine for fast road driving. Mine is standard bodywise with none sti rear lights and low level rear spoiler. As previously mention you can't map the standard ecu unfortunately.
