2004 WRX - recommendations for light tuning.
Hi there,
I've just bought a 2004 WRX which I pick up on Tuesday. I haven't even driven it yet ( can't wait ! ) however I was hoping you could point me in the right direction for some light tuning mods. Should I go down the usual exhaust /filter route ? Are the standard brakes sufficient or should I be considering upgraded disks and pads. The car has done 68K with a FSSH and has been looked after. I will be using it as a weekend car and only really want to make wothwhile modifications ( i.e. engine, brakes and chassis ).
Any suggestions would be really appreciated.
Cheers,
Wilky.

NO !
Adjustable Whiteline rear anti-roll bar and drop links, kills the understeer and makes the car handle so much better.
BEST VALUE MOD YOU CAN MAKE !
IMHO

Nah, LOL.
You say, 'light tuning'? Impossible, as once you start you cannot stop!
Its worse than a tin of Pringles can ever be!
We're all doomed i tell thee! Doomed!
Now back to the question Sort out the suspension and brakes. Will get you more initially than any engine mods will imho.
But think and spend wisely, or you can (*ahem* like me) end up spending more than once on something that if done properly the first time would have been ok. As an example, allignment for tracking, etc. I must have had mine done 4 times now, LOL.
Anyway, choose wisely and enjoy your new car! But trust me, once you start modding you will not just stop!

i recommend going for a sports cat downpipe. It wont be a big restriction at that power level and saves you having to change the downpipe come MOT time.
Also, don't go for an induction kit, stay with (uprated) panel filter.
Buy the exhaust bits second hand if you can, saves quite a bit of money.

I personally think (although I don't know for sure), that any silencer will disturb airflow more than a straight pipe, so yes, it probably does restrict things a little bit.
Having said that, it might not be worth the money outlay to get rid of it from a performance point of view. I'd personally go for a sports cat downpipe or decat up-pipe instead if I had to chose.
What other mods have you got?
