Default Strange Problem

I have recently noticed a whirring high pitched whistle coming from the back end if my wrx. It only happens while the engine is running and it sounds like it is coming from the centre of the car and you can only hear it close to the rear end. Has anyone experienced this before and can give me a clue before i get it looked at?

Have a lie down underneath the car with it running and see if you can find the noise..

It is at its loudest around the rear of the car towards the centre problem is it is so high pitched its hard to pin point where it is exactly somewhere around the rear diff is my best guess where i noticed it was louder then anywhere else.

Rear diff can't be s ource of noise if the car is stationary, although noise from the transmission could travel down the prop.

What you describe sounds most like fuel pump noise, a high pitched buzzing (best described as like a bee in a biscuit tin in a jiffy bag)?

to see if its the fuel pump turn the car ignition on and off as the pump starts up with it so you'l be able to listen to it without the engine on
