Exclamation Cannot remove sump plug! HELP

Just tried to do an oil change (my first time) but I cannot for the life of me remove the sump plug! It just won't budge. I'm using a 17mm socket also tried 18 but spins a little.

One of the threads on the plug is a bit worn so I'm wondering how the 'specialist' I used to go to removed it? I'm hoping it is anti-clockwise to remove and not clockwise?

A quick reply would be appreciated as I'm still trying to get it off now.

TIA.

Mine was a pain when i first did the oil change, bloody japanese.
Had to leave the oil filter on too, got the garage to change the filter shortly after and the mechanic says he wasnt surprised i couldnt get it off as it was that tight on.
If im struggling with the sump plug iv used use a wheel brace to get it off (carefully).

When i was an Apprentice, i was told - Lefty loosey Righty Tighty - fit a new sump washer(as they are the crushable type) when you do an oil change and torque the sump plug to 44Nm.

Wasn't me who'd rounded it off, Scoobyclinic's fault.

I'm definitely going to order a new one. Any clues as to how much? Might just call into a dealer and see what they say.
Filter was also a pain to get off so borrowed a tool (remover swivel) from a mate. Oil change went very well. Pre-filled the filter which didn't take as long as I had expected, and the oil light went out straight away whilst cranking. Fired it up and went for a wee drive, all was well.

And I've come across many things that loosen clockwise and tighten anti-clockwise.

Think they're quite pricey from Subaru. I'm about to change mine for a magnetic one, £7 off ebay!
