Default Oil for high milage turbo

I have 97 UK turbo, currently with 300bhp ftlbs and 141000 miles.

Engine is not burning oil, just leaking (soon to be fixed I hope)

I have used 10-40 synthetic oil for the last 70K miles (as long as I've had it), but being that it's getting on a bit what's good for the engine?

Is there any benefit to use something thicker? 20-50W or am I being a dullard.

I am having a new oil pump put in in a couple of weeks along with cambelt etc...

Cheers

No reason not to stick with what you've been using! You could go to a 10/50 or even a 10/60 for summer use.
What full syn. 10/40 are you using, as there's not many of that grade out there - just Millers and Motul spring to mind. (Lots of semi-syn. 10/40's)

Mainly I've been using Torco SR-1 from a company called Nimbus who are based Nr Driffeild E Yorks. They import it from the US.

I learned from oilman about different types of synthetics and I know it's not THE best but its pretty good, I was getting a really good price and I've mostly been pretty kind to my car.

last time I used Motul though - bought it along with other stuff from a supplier, just made sence.

I'd stick with what you've been using for the last 70k. It can't be bad if the car has 141k under its wheels

I agree, how bad is the leak?

10w-40 is fine, dont bother with 20w-50.

Cheers

Guy.
