How much money do have to shell out on it?

Start with K&N panel filter, then backbox and uprated fuel pump (Walbro 255). Downpipe with fast flow cat (or de-cat if you want to **** about replacing cat at MOT time) next and de-cat centre box- remap is recommended when changing the downpipe, as the higher gas flow can lead to an overboost situation which can trash your engine! A remap is the icing on the cake, expect another 50-60bhp and similar torque figures. Better fuel comsumption too, yes BETTER!

Then it gets really expensive- bigger turbo, bigger injectors, FMIC.....

Nothing, learn how it drives and handles.

Is it a UK or an import?

I'm in the same boat as you mate with MY95 wrx(import) which is standard. Cos i'm also on a tight budget I've been advised on a panel filter,cat-back exhaust, walbro fuel pump and finally then getting the remap done. And if i can then I miight also get the decat just before the remap is done. The car is safe to run without the remap for a while after all those mods but as slimnotshady said the remap is the icing as everything will work even better as one.

Cat back exhaust (Impreza exhaust systems, downpipe, centre section decat systems and de-cat, Afterburner, Ninja and Racebox :) uprated panel filter approx cost £400 (exhaust and filter)

Spend £50ish on a rolling road printout to make sure the car is fine (fuelling, boost etc) before you start modding.

Replace the cat with a sports cat (freer flowing but you won't have any hassle for MOT time)
