Default Half Boost Sometimes...

Hi,

Recently fitted a ninja fast flow sports cat downpipe (to MY98 Terzo). First thing i noticed was the boost crept up slightly from about 0.7/0.8 bar to 0.9/1.0 bar (sorry cheapish gauge in PSI so can't be precise).

At the same time as fitting this i have encountered an intermitant problem with the boost cutting down and staying at 0.4ish bar after/during hard motorway driving, reverting back to normal after the engine restarted.

The solenoid valve was cleaned today which has not fixed the problem, have been told that it could be hitting the fuel cut defender limit and to have this uprated to one that cuts at 1.1 bar as opposed to the standard one that is lower (0.9 bar??)

First question was if anyonelse had experienced this problem when uprating the exhaust and should the new exhaust push up the boost anyway?

Hoping its as simple an explanation as uprating the fuel cut defender and nothing else more sinister causing over boost?

Cheers

When fuel cut happens it's sharp and will almost put your head through the windscreen (not nice).

MAF may be causing the boost problem.

IIRC the boost cut isnt until 1.25bar and as stated above it feels like hitting a brick wall. The boost does'nt just dropp off a bit it goes completly.

As it is a fast flow car you will see a small increase in boost as there is less back pressure in the system.

I would be suspicious of a boost leak.

Cheers for that

Had to move the intercooler when fitting the new downpipe, could a pipe disturbed when carrying this out cause this then?

Is that some fresh oil there?? Looks like that could well be the problem.

Whip the intercooler off again and tighten it up.

Not boost cut IMO

Low boost due to knock sensor activity, so it's going into safe mode or limp home as some call it.

Only reason i think it is not safe mode as the engine reving freely i.e. over 4k revs and no CEL?

Right, just taken intercooler off, checked all pipes (all good), cleaned solenoid again, cleaned out restrictor and pipe, check other pipework (all good) replaced clips that looked a little knackered and intercooler back on...

Still only reaching half boost, does anyone have any suggestions at all as i think i have eliminated spilt/loose/blocked pipes as the cause.

Any advice greatly appreciated

News to me that they don't rev over 4k whilst in some safe mode, admittedly I've probably not had to rev one past that to find the fault before. who knows.

Mine used to do this and it was the boost solenoid. Are you sure it is working?
