Question what is the normal cost of a forged 2.5 spec

am running a very good spec 2L at the mo, and fancy saving for the next up grade, most of the time i just use the car to go to the shops and back, and the odd 1/4 miles now and then.

so how much does a 2.5 cost? also would this be cheaper than a 2.2/2.3 etc

thanks

You can get an ej257 with Forged Rods and pistons for about $3200 from the states.

To get one from a reputable company over here your looking upto £3000 depending on quality of components used.

do it yourself, good forged rods and pistons can be had for sensible money if you know where to look ;-)

Default Not so dear as you'd think

NEW APi handbuilt, 2.5 steel / forged short motor is £1800.00 with API steel rods, Wossner pistons, ACL competition bearings and ARP million horsepower big end bolts.

Plus VAT - with a warranty and you'd be dealing with English people in England for any advice or problem solving.

A built 2.5 around £1800 is reasonable, however I think people overlook the extensive costs based in a big power build. The price may be relatively cheap to get the motor but the other costs add up when actually carrying out the build...

LOL if he did he wouldn't admit it on here... But that is a very very reasonable price for a properly built 2.5, seeing as the first thing most people do is dump the standard pistons and fit better ones.

Ian - it depends on your power targets. If you are wanting less than 500 then you can get away with a std 2.5 STi bottom end and drop in pistons.

Shurely that's illegal Do people really do stuff like that and defraud the exchequer??

l'll have to try and see what I can do for a 2.0 built to the same spec as the 2.5 quoted.

It may be possible with a recon 2.0 block with a rebore to one size oversize.

We only work with NEW, standard kit on 2.5's because the cylinder walls are thin and the block will not take a rebore. EVER !

l'll be back as they say in the movies.

Cookie. The strip and rebuild cost and incidentals will add up in your case no matter how generous I try to be with a trade in.

The attractive price for the 2.5 works because it is a cash and carry price for people to do themslves. The moment you start using someone like us who charge [ very reasonable ] labour charges it starts to look like a very different proposition costwise.
