need help a.s.a.p with my scooby !!!!!!!!!
hi there.regarding my previous post about my car.95 wrx import.
the turbo stopped boosting and was then told by envy performance in bedlington tht it was my turbo so i then bought a new turbo to replace it and give them the job of replaceing it for me.
they have had the car 2days now and when i rang at 3.30 pm today it was ready for collection.
so went to collect it from them to be told there is a probelm with it.
now my car does the following :
cuts out at 3-4k revs.
engine check light is on
VERY little boost
no pull at all.
intercooler now rattles allover the place.
they are also charging me the earth to fit the turbo as they say they had to buy bits but a mate of mine works there and has informed me no parts were bought !!!
he now says he needs the car for another day to try and see whats wrong but i WILL be charged for that aswell !!
the car was driven by a subaru dealer the day i took it to them and did not have any of the above problems.it just didnt boost as posted in my other post.
can anyone tell me what could be wrong or what to do?
anyone had this problem?

All of these :

You may of not required a new turbo in the 1st place, it could of just been a boost control or plumbing issue.

I never you told you it was your turbo, I said it sounds like your turbo (based on you telling me the symptoms over the phone) to which you promply said I'll buy one and get you to fit it.
We didn't test drive the car before you brought it to us so I have no way of telling what it did and didn't do before you brought it to us.
I also didn't say we bought any parts for the car - we didn't - we would have had to though if we didn't keep studs and nuts in stock. I wasn't charging you for these, just the extra time it took to rectify.
We'll get it fixed hopefully tomorrow for you and I'll do whatever I can to keep the bill to a minimum.

Not being funny but why wouldn't you test drive before fitting the part which is meant to fix the problem? to me this just seems strange, i work in IT so I am quite a logical person, but surely the process should have been:
1-Test drive
2-Is the problem consistant with part suggested? (also cover yourself knowing how the car drives when it was delivered to you)
3-Yes - continue to fit part
4-No - advise, using experience, what the problem may be / diagnose
5-Return car in working order or same order with recomendations
?

Its often easier in the long run for the garage to do as the customer wants and if the problem is still there at least they have ruled out the turbo as the problem..
Of course it would be sensible to have a quick look for loose pipework or obviouse problems and such before swapping the turbo out but if theres nothing obviouse go ahead as the customer is always right!
At least envy performance have come on to explain their side of things, fair play!

If someone came to me with a turbo and said "can you fit this to my car" i would say sure give them a price and fit it. Most people will not listen to logic once they have an idea that somethings wrong, in this case the turbo.
Its often easier in the long run for the garage to do as the customer wants and if the problem is still there at least they have ruled out the turbo as the problem..
Of course it would be sensible to have a quick look for loose pipework or obviouse problems and such before swapping the turbo out but if theres nothing obviouse go ahead as the customer is always right!

Fair comment, but would they have to come on here and explain their side of things if they followed the logical steps above?

Got to agree with you mate, I would have expected them to check out the problem too.
You would expect a garage to advise you before hand.
