Default Sluggish Starting

As a fllow on from my previous thread about slow starting (STi Type R V4), I have now replaced a few bits and she's still the same.

Took it to AWD who also advised that i needed a new MAF and o2 Sensor. Got a new temp sensor thrown on aswell but it's still the same.

It takes a few cranks to fire when left to cool down for an hour or more after use.

It's also a bit rough to start from cold.

From hot it starts perfectly.

Next thoughts were the crank sensor. Does this sound logical?

It's something so small, but it's really enjoying the enjoyment of my car!

Cheers

Have you considered the battery?
It may turn over on the starter motor OK but the ignition is being starved of power, so a very weak spark results. Get a drop test done on the battery or, check the cells with a hydrometer. You could have a cell going down. This is happening to me at the moment on my 03 STi with a 4 year old battery.

I'll get a new one soon and give it a try. The voltage seems to be fine, but if it's changed then it's one less thing to worry about.

Cheers for the suggestion, i'll keep you posted.

Another idea could be the crankshaft sensor.

Similar charcteristics to how you describe.

According to my turbo timer display the battery is always at 14v, a slight drop if I load the electrics (fogs, full-beam etc).

My mate has suggested a crank sensor so i'll source one of those whil i'm at it too. Got a price from Subaru of £88 all in. Cheap?

not a bad price. bear in mind there aint a lot of room under the bonnet to do much, so if it was me i would pay £88 for a fiddly job.

Sorry, i just meant the price for the sensor. He said £117 + VAT at first then said he could sort me out with a bit of discount.

My mate will fit it for me no probs. Hi sbro-in-law has had one for the last few years and he's done all the work on that.
