Default Boost Solenoid

Hey people. Was just wondering what the benefits are of fitting a 3 port boost solenoid?

allows quicker spool , hold boost better to redline , especially in high boost application > 18psi .Build boost faster and more consistent . Its an interrupt type solenoid not a bleed type , hence all the boost built by the compressor is seen , the wastegate is not seeing any of it until it needs to . In the bleed type , the wastegate is always seeing some boost , hence slower spool and difficult holding highboost to redline

Ahhh, nice one. So worth getting a hold of one then cos my cars is boosting at round 19 - 22ish psi.

Thanks

Hi, sorry to jump in,but can you just fit it and see the benifits straight away? Or will it need setting up? Also, the wiring needs splicing doesn't it? Mines on a 95RA.

The car needs to be set up for it; generally the mapper installs it just prior to mapping.

i should make one correction ; the prodrive 3 port BCS can be used both as a bleed type or in interrupt mode , depends on how u connect it . Most persons use it in the interrupt mode .

Dont the MY95 models have 3-port solenoids as standard?

Check this thread to see if yours looks the same.

I fitted a prodrive BCS to mine - saw no difference in spool up but it did hold more boost at the top and this was worth extra power.

Whatever you do - it needs mapping for it else it will overboost. Duties will need reducing by factor of around 0.7 as a starting point.

Will definatly be going for the map cos itl most likely get it all done when I get bigger injectors. Hopefully wana get the torque more towards 300 and get over the 300BHP mark.

There are some mappers who can work with a 2-port. I have a mate from the RB5 Owners Club who got 319bhp/lbs on a VF28, standard TMIC and engine internals.

Was mapped on the 2-port by Bob Rawle though.

Mine was mapped to 356bhp and 402 lb/ft on a 2 port - a 3 port is much easier to map to and will (and does) give more at the top end even for a mapping god like Bob
