PSI3 water injection controller used to control intercooler spray - anyone done it?
Now I know this can be done.. just curious as to how.
The JDM Intercooler spray is controlled by boost pressure, and as the PSI3 has a switching circuit based on boost pressure to control optional water injection, I figure why not put it to use.
If anyone has done this I'd like to share your experience rather than stumble around blindly myself falling into the same pitfalls.
Any advice, pointers to guides that I haven't been able to find would be appreciated.

thought about it, but you have to run it through a relay as the curcuit is low ampage and needs protection.. I had started to design a system that had manual override and a time delay on it to with an empty tank warning on it as well.. jsut never got round to building it!!!

yep i have just wired up via a relay to the back of the uk switch. Got mine to activate at 1.3 bar at the moment. im running a 1.5bar max
If i remember correctly been wired in two years now, I used a relay cos the psi only switches an earth. so the earth from the psi switched the relay which in turn sends a live output to the output on the back of the switch.

This is something like I want to achieve - perhaps with an additional blank subaru switch to act as a manual over-ride of the automatic function (in case my bottle gets low!)
I have seen the diagram on the PSI3 website for water injection - but was just making sure there wasn't anything big that was different.
Mind telling me what relay you used?

I take it that yours automatically activates when over 1.3bar and manually activates when you press the button?

I generally have it set at 1.3 as other wise it uses to much water. But in the case of yesterday when my car was on a set of rollers i had it set to start spraying at .1 bar so had constant water all the time it was on boost

do you have issues with the pump constantly spraying water? One of my concerns was that the pump may not be upto 'constant' use? (paranoia maybe).
While I'm reasonably confident with installing things like stereos and gauges - this is a step-up on the skill ladder as far as I'm concerned!

No none at all. had it wired in at least two years now
ofcourse i guess it depends where you have it set and what boost your hitting. i did have it set at 1bar to start with but found it a pain to keep filling with water

its very easy to install. you need a four pin relay.
supply one pin with a perminant fused live, one with ignition live from the radio or cigar lighter, one with a switched earth from the psi unit and the other is the live output which goes to the output on the back of the switch.
If you have all the gear wont take more than half an hour. Cant remember whatgoes on what pin to the relay at the moment but there generally marked

it is just a 4 pin relay. if you get one fron Halfords or similar for some spot lights or something like that it will have a diagram showing what pin is what.
I used to know these pin niumbers of the top of my head years ago. But that was while i was training. lol

Okay - I've got some bits..
A relay, a little project box, a small switch, a pile of wires, and some crimps
To get the relay thing right - pins 86/85 feed the relay coil, when the current passes over the coil it connects pins 30/87 in order to complete the circuit?
So - This is the plan as I see it with my limited knowledge...
Relay pin 85 connects to PSI Pin 3 (12v), relay pin 86 connected to PSI pin 4 (switched earth), pin 87 and 30 to the + and earth on the switch. The small switch I'll mount on the box I'll put inline with pin 85/3 in order to give me a very simple way of preventing automatic functioning.
What horrible electrical law have I broken doing this?

Plus any modifications I'd need to make would have to go through a convoluted process of being referred back via an IPT, none of whom I know, and none of them know what a turbo or an intercooler is.. and are probably a bit wooly with the concept of a "car" - let be able to actually drive one.
THEN I'd have to charge myself £20,000 and take 6 months to get a couple of bent metal brackets and some black nasty to mount some indicators..

Okay - its fitted and after some initial snags (aka The Stupidity of Ian), its up and running as a "test fit" having done some initial runs running with the PSI3 switching the spray at 0.10 boost.
The little box is tucked up beneath the dash on the drivers side held in place with some velcro coins, with the wiring for the PSI3 taking the same path as the PSI3 cable.
I need to take it back out again as I want to heatshrink the wiring to make it a bit tidier, but I think its a nice little install.
