funny clicky noises after remap chip
sorry to put this on you guys but i really need some help.
i was given a remap chip from a freind who no longer wanted it and decided to fit it today. anyway after hours of fidley soldering it was inplace and ready to go. cut the j1 link and tried to reset the ecu but it just kept makeing funny noises and wouldnt start.
took the chip out and solderd back j1 link and the car starts and drives fine but just when you turn ignition on it starts clicking fast clicks ? then fire the engine up and it goes ? no engine light and the car runs fine so whats that all about?
i should know better and all that but i simpley cant afford standalone ecu+mapping so this was the best i can do for now im just woreid that ive knackerd the ecu or something . its a z4 out of a 96 import.
any help or advice would be great.
thanks

Hi simon thanks for reply. the two black and green connectors are not conected so it cant be that. i took the chip ot of the socket and solderd back j1 so i thought it would just ignore that map and contineu with the standerd map. what should i look for?
many thanks

Does sound like one of the pins isn't making contact correctly, i had a similar issue with mine and ditched the idea for a simtek in the end.
You could try putting a multitester on it to see which one isn't working.

I had this problem with mine and must say it scared the crap outta me, thought i'd buggered summit. When you solder the 28 pin dil socket make sure the holes on board are solder free so that socket can be pushed right into board(using a desoldering pump £3 - £4 on fleabay) then apply solder. Disconnect J1, push chip quite firmly into (making sure pins are correctly lined up and that chip is right way round) socket, reset ecu and you should be good to go.

Hi,
Just to throw another suggestion in, could it be the boost solenoid clicking. Mine sometimes does this when you put the ignition on, went through a phase of it then i cleaned out the throttle flap and Throttle position sensor and touch wood its not done it since....
Just a thought...
