Default think i have a maf prob

hi, i think i have a maf sensor prob with my my97 type r import, its not idleing when coming up to junctions almost stalling then revs pic up slowly, its a orange labled maf and iv got a feeling that they aint cheap , is it best to by main dealer part and what sort of price am i looking at to replace or is there any way i can check or get over this problem thanks

Those MAF's don't fail anything like as often as the later cassette types. Check for air leaks betwen the MAF and the turbo first, then get the lambda checked in case you have a sensor failure, which is more common. I certainly wouldn't spend that much without being sure it's duff!

Could also be the idle control valve give that a clean if you can

thanks for your comments, ill do the first checks eg leaking pipe then check lamba sensor and idle speed control valve

yeah if anyone can shed some light on how to clean control valve properly would be greatful, dont want to do more harm than good
