Default how easy are headers to fit to a classic?

I am thinking of having a go at fitting my headers in march time, i have basic tools.

how hard are they to fit? any bits that might catch me out?

will be working from axle stands, and car jack

going on a version 6 sti
gt-spec style with heat wrap.

have done a few bits on my car my self before, exhaust, turbo swap, injectors, manifold off etc etc, so have basic idea ofwhat im doing

thanks

basic tools are fine......until you realise you need a welder/angle grinder/gas axe (delete as aplicable) to get those rusted studs/nuts off ! have fun

The nuts are probably the only obsicle you will come across. Its the heatshield ones that have generally rusted and sockets usually just round them. Give all the bolts a good sprey with some WD40 the night before.
Dont forget to order the new gasgets if you havent already

Headers to block > headers to up-pipe > up-pipe to turbo.

cool, thank you

also on the gt-spec, there are some nuts/bolts to keep the 2 halfs together, is it best to leave them alone or tighten them up?

hmmm just fitted some on mine, looked very similar apart from the uppipe to turbo was part of mine too. the day i tried fitting mine i ended up with my car at my freinds garage for over 2 week lol. looked pretty straight forward to start with but i did have to grind off my radiator mount bracket at the bottom left side (airbox side) and cut some out of it, the new headers came out a lot closer to the bottom of the radiator and they wouldnt go in untill i did that. also 2 of the studs/bolts that fix it to the turbo snapped so needed changing (getting out 1st).
what happend then is i went a bit mad.. pulled engine out took off inlet manifold/alternator/power steeringpump untill i was left with the block which i fully cleaned (when will i stop????), new timing belt, plugs, oil, filter.

so pretty straight forward if all goes well.. if 1 things leads to another then ur shagged!!!!!

Relatively straight forward. The night before you should spray all the nuts and bolts with WD40, especially top and bottom of the up-pipe. Apply WD 40 again in the morning before you start the job.
Set off with the intention of not rounding off any nuts and bolts.
Sometimes to get the O/E up pipe off it is necessary to slacken the engine mounts and jack up the engine to obtain clearance.
It is far easier with a ramp as opposed to axle stands and I guess with good facilities it takes from 2 hours on an easy job and 3 hours if you hit problems so on axle stands you can double these figures.
BTW, the fixed standard charge for doing a header and up pipe change around here is £70.

Not even half an hour, as long as the nuts are all good. Use a quality six sided socket and get some ramps to drive up onto, makes things loads easier..
