wrapped headers
Hi
Ive just wrapped my new stainless steel headers with 30 meters x 3mm x 50mm of high temp exhaust wrap. After that ive wrapped again with flame/heat proof foil tape(sticky ash st*t in a blanket),my reason for doing this is to keep damp, oil and general sh*t off me headers plus an extra layer of insulation,I don't no if any one else has tried this?Hope it all stays in tact.
Looks like i should be fitted on the space shuttle.Going to fit this week.

hi mate, is that a kind of aluminium tape?
if yes you can remove it quickly before fit on your car as you will got fire under your engine when it will be hot!!
a friend of mine had make the same with the same tape... and lucky us that i take a fire extinctor as i was think not so good about this idea..
5 minutes of warmup the car and fire was here!
so if it's aluminium tape... don't try it i think

Yeh, do the HT spray paint, works a treat for keeping wrap in tidy condition, still can absorb water a little, but lasts much longer. Still smells first few times you use it though.

I found this link in my 'cars' favourites folder but i am not sure on their prices.
Ceramic Coating | Exhaust Coatings | Thermal Protection for Performance Vehicles
Do a quick search, there will be old threads on here from the past with the companies mentioned I am sure.

I was told not to overinsulate the stainless headers because if too much heat is retained the headers wll fail prematuely on a welded joint and if ceramic coating is wrapped then it will flake off the stainless surface after short while.
Also not to use the spray paint as it turns the wrap brittle and its service life greatly reduced.

They look very much like the Megans found on ebay. If they are the ones with the single piece type with flexi joint to the uppipe then they are prone to cracking around the collector area. I had a set for 18 months and then went back to ported headers.
Have a look here for pics of the ones I had fitted. You can just about see the cracks that you cant get to in order to reweld.
