first off all i would like to say what a great website, it has got be hooked with hours off reading (now 01:50am) lol

I just bought a 1995 scooby yesterday, not sure if the seller has seen me coming but just got a couple of problems
when i drove the car a week ago, i didn't thrash it as it was cold, but coming back with it yesterday i took it up to higher revs and there was a slight judder but the car like drove through it if you no what i mean,, what does anyone think this could be ??? maybe fuel pump or spark plugs etc??
also just as pulled up onto my drive after a couple of mile of 30mph the engine light came on, I have read that there is fault codes where you can see what error the engine is finding but what do i disconnect so show the sequence of flashes and of course where is it?? also would like to know what the faults mean after i find it

I know this is big post for my 1st one but I just don't have anyone i know who has a scooby so I am in need of some advice

could be something simple like a maf fault or something but as 34srm says post the code up and i'm sure myself or some1 else on here will help you

the judder could be down to the individual coil packs that are fitted. If they are the original ones then the chances are they are begining to break down and not supply as much juice to the plugs. To check these, you need to remove them, and there is a black sort of cover over the end if the coil pack, gently lift this to see if there are any cracks in them (you will know what I mean if they are there)

If you dont know the last time the plugs were changed, then change the plugs whilst you are at it as these if old could cause possible juddering

ok thanks I will check the coil and spark plugs too,, had a go follow some instructions on find in the ECU but when i removed the panel,, its looks like jigsaw and i am unable to find any single black wire and a single green wire???

hiya,, well i am so struggling to find the two green connectors and two black connectors under my steering wheel,, grr I had a check around the engine and noticed the the dump valve pipe had a slight cut so replaced that and now it doesn't judder under high revs but have noticed it sometime does at low revs when putting it into 2nd gear and accerating slightly harder than normal?? the warning light is still showing but will be trying again this week to find the code,, I just fitted new discs and pads on the front as they came with car when i took it on as the brake warning light was on, (now its off so thought i should upgrade the backs too,, what do you think of the mods below??? how much are coil packs for 4 and also maf sensors??

your connectors might be tucked away up above the steering rod, grab a torch and have a look, pull bits out the way to see, they might be all taped together, never know. Mine were well hidden!!!
Most turbo boost guages i have seen come with a basic fitting kit, a t piece, length of hose and a mount. I plumbed mine into the middle hose on the top of the inlet manifold, worked fine.

ok will have a better look on thursday with some better light,,

I noticed that the turbo gauge comes a fitting kit so was not sure if it would be long enough to fit, (I guess they come with fitting instructions????)
I was only going for a single pillar as just really thought thats one of the most important,, as you can tell I am not too technical but am willing to give it a go!!!!
what would ppl suggest to fix for gauges Oil?? or other and of course how easy are those to fit????

hiya,, well in this very very cold day i managed to show most of the street by builders bum and find my green and black connectors,, i run the ecu diagnostic check and it was showing code 22 - which according to my prints out its the "KNOCK SENSOR"
so what do I need to do to fix this problem and reset my ecu,,
I did try resetting the ecu by connecting them and press accerator down and then half way then running it but it still showed the same error code 22

The code doesn't mean the sensor is faulty !
It means the ecu is worried about the amount of detonation your engine is producing ! THIS IS IMPORTANT !

You need to add octane booster, possibly to Vpower and then get to a specialist to see what is actually going on.... otherwise budget for a new engine !

Is the car a UK spec model or a WRX/STI from Japan ?
If it is a Jap speccar the engine will melt because of our crappy fuel over here !

HTH - just be gentle with it till someone can tell you that the car is fit !

Is Millers the best one i should be using or is there other brands which are Ok

So I was looking at buying a boost gauge and pod to see what boost I am using as I think I am over boosting, what is a manual or electronic boost controller and do i require one at this stage??? if so what do ppl suggest getting for the price (I had a quick look at ebay but was unsure if ppl bought these products and what the instructions was like ???

hiya all, so now i have just loaded some millers octane boost in and a full tank of optimax fuel seems to be running a lot better,, so thanks for the info,,, the guy from Elvington seems very helpfull and will be takin it there so he can tell me whats going on with her,, still got the knock sensor are these expensive to buy?? and still lookin to get a boost gauge but not sure on boost controller at this stage??

Depends what your after really, generally if you're not too technically minded, i would steer clear from boost controllers for the time being, they are good for their purpose! But they are fully user programmable, and if you start playing with dials like it's a radio, you're going to have problems,lol.

There's safer ways for quick power upgrades, chipping you're ecu would be one of the best first mods you could do really, these are preset, so you can't fiddle about and cause problems, but do give significant and safe power upgrades at a reasonable price. It also gives you the assurance that you can run on uk fuel without octane booster if you wish. And for now, that won't require any supporting mods. Just make sure you get it done by a reputable company, Scott t is highly regarded amongst others on here.

You need to get the knock sensor sorted first and formost though, try subaru for a price. Remember to do a ecu reset after you fit it, unless it will show the same fault code, as it is stored in the memory, and is only cleared after a reset.

Thanks for the info, I am going to see a guy called Richard from Elvington just for some advice and basically some pointers too (as recommended by a member here) I did notice that my powered steering fluid was low so i topped it up and now the warning light went off for a while and then just flashed frequently and then stayed on,, thought that was weird as its never done that before
