engine removal advice
started removing engine from my classic RA (head gasket gone),anyway whats the best thing to do with the aircon and steering pump, totally remove them or disconnect them and push them to one side also whats the best way to disconnect engine wiring/connectors,do i unplug all connectors and remove loom which is easiest, never removed a impreza engine before any advice would help
#2
The A/C is freed from the engine by unbolting the pump off it's alloy bracket. No need to break the pipe joints.
Similarly, although it does not look it, the P/S can be done the same way. Both will swing away from the engine 'path'.
I mark up every pipe and electrical connection using masking tape and a simple number system, ie #2 goes to #2!
Very little wireing stays on the engine.
Note!
Make sure the fuel pressure is down before disconnecting
There is far more coolent than you can ever imagine when the hose comes off. There is a drain on the rad, down below the charcoal fuel condenser iirc.
Rad has to come right out along with the A/C condensing rad.
I trust you know the Impreza's secret weapon to frustration?
Remember to remove the large clutch fork pivot pin hidden under the large hex socket cover just below the starter motor.
There is little room to get it out when freed.
Good luck.
Graham.

I am about to do the same soon, maybe next weekend. I have read lots on here, and from the Subaru works manual I got from a link on here.
One thing I am not 100% on is where to attach eye to block, if indeed that is the way to lift it out?
Or should I just get some webbing or chain and wrap it round something a bit stronger than the dip stick handle?
Here's to numb fingers!
