GT30R spool up on EJ257
Hi Guys,
Having just built a 2.5 classic I was wondering what sort of spool up rate I should have. i.e where in the rpm range I should see 1 bar and where I should see the limit I have set on the AVCR of 1.6 bar
Its a stock bottom end with standard STI version 5 heads.
RCMS Tubular Manifold and RCMS rotated uppipe and down pipe with a Tial 40mm external wastegate.
Compression ratio is 8.5:1 using 1.6mm Gaskets.
I'm also using a uk 6 speed box.
Cheers
Daz

Just to give you an idea GT30R was spooling at 3700 RPM and full boost at 4100 RPM on our EJ207 engine with JUN Stg 2R camshafts plus reversed inlet manifold

We have a GT35R on a 2.5 engine and spool is fantastic , virtually lag free....
I suspect the GT30R would be fantastic but we were looking for 550 + on pump fuel....

Hi Daz,
Bearing in Mind I have the 0.63 ex a/r standard uk Cams, compression is approx 8.1 in Fifth makes 1.4 bar by 3500 rpm, I do currently have a boost control issue if I hold it at 4000 rpm in Fifth and do WOT it boosts straight to 2 bar.
My brother has same turbo as me on 2.5l sti 8 starts building boost at 3000 rpm and is easily at full boost (1.9bar) by 3500 rpm, and holds boost all the way to the 8k red line.
In the early gears though due to the lag the turbo is not felt until at least 4000 rpm, the car revs so fast it is hard to gauge exactly when turbo has made full boost.
With the 0.82 ex a/r spool should be effected by as much as 500 rpm compared with the 0.63 on the 2.5.

That makes sense then.
I've just had my car dyno'd and bearing in mind i'm still the on 2.0L VF28 map (dont want to hear about I shouldn't be doing that) boost was limited to 1.4 bar. It started making boost at 3000 rpm and by 3500rpm its was making 1.4bar which is where I had the AVCR set.
It made 452 bhp at 6480rpm at 1.4 bar
Torque was way down on what I expected at 360ft lbs.
I would expect more torque once I get it mapped properly. However I am happy with the power figure.
Stevebt got 486bhp at 1.5 bar using a similar turbo at scooby clinic and although mine was at Well Lane and is probably on the optimistic side. I'm quite happy with that considering it hasn't been mapped for the new engine or the turbo.
Here's the graph.

I double checked on the way home, I accelerated from 2000 rpm in 5th, it stayed at 0.5 bar until 2800 rpm, then started spooling and hit 1.4 bar at 3100 rpm.
