Default MAF problems

ok

my car is mapped up to 300bhp with a power fc and supporting mods

now after about 6 months of it being mapped up the maf went down
i put this to old age and bought a brand new one from the stealers.
now after 2 months its gone down again.
what pi$$es me off is im only a few miles away from home when this happens.

so is there anyway to blag the ecu into thinking the maf is ok just so i can get home ?
i saw a thread a couple of years back where if u put a resistor across a couple of the pins of the maf connector it fools the ecu into thinking its got a good signal and therefor works

my car will fire up then cut straight out when the MAF has gone down
the power fc i beieve does this.
i did try put my stock ecu in and that still did the same

any ideas on how to blag this ecu into thinking the maf is good then ?
i do know when the maf was down it reported 1080mv and didnt change when turned over, but when i put the new one it it goes to 1530mv and fluctuates around there when running.

any help greatly apreciated

dave

No idea how to fool your MAF. With my out of date knowledge of electronics and rough idea of how the MAF works, it's not the kind of thing you can fix by sticking a resistor over it. It's there to precisely meter air and tell the ECU about it. Hence why when the MAF knackers, the engine doesn't work either - because you'll break your engine.

Anyway, if you bought it brand new from a Subaru dealer, don't they have a 3 year parts warranty? If it stays around 1530mv when running and doesn't fluctuate around as you drive, then it's definitely not right.

As far as I can see, either you've been really unlucky and had a faulty MAF which needs replacing at the dealer's cost, or something unexplained is causing MAF failures - vibration and contamination are two things that spring to mind.

vibration, water, dirt particles... all kill the maf.

bracket the maf to the body not the engine, check filter is not allowing unfiltered air threw, check bonnet vent / cold air intake is not allowing water to the filter..

carry a spare new maf

I told you they would go quite often , you can make some changes on the commander to get the car working better until you change the maf !!

Do you check your maf by removing the plug when its running? This can cause damage to the maf
