Hi,

Noticed a problem with my quickrack today, steering feels heavy when turning and I can hear a whining sound coming from the engine bay when turning lock to lock.

I had a replacement quickrack installed so I am suspecting fluid is leaking somwhere or there is air in the system.

Can someone advise what checks I need to do? I also noticed slight burning oil smell, checked the engine thoroughly and couldn't see any obvious oil leaks so I suspect the power steering fluid is leaking somewhere?

Does your car have the power steering cooler that runs over the top of the radiator? My MY97WRX has it had corroded to the point it was leaking fluid onto the rad causing the heavy steering, noisy on full lock and the oil smell you mention also.

noisy on full lock is pump trying to push low oil, so low fluid level.
